Busy Week!

It's been a busy week, sorry for the lack of posts. Moxie's mom has been coming to visit, getting ready to adopt her. Sue and Ben still need homes though. Sue is very intellegent and sweet. She's also very independent, content to entertain herself if she needs to. Ben is a snuggle bug who likes to be with people and loves to lay in your lap.

Oh and Sue was featured on the Daily Kitten website!

Clean Kitties!

Moxie and Cali

Clean kittens!

So the kittens got baths today. I recently saw that this is apparently a bone of contention with some people. Cats normally do a very good job of keeping themselves clean. When kittens are inside and have their mother she can help them. However when you have a litter of small kittens and there is no mother to help kitten can get rather filthy. They play in their food, they play in their litter box, they get all kinds of nasty stuff on them. Sometimes the only thing you can do is to bathe them.

I made a guide about how to bathe small kitten when I had Wyatt. Hopefully it will be helpful.

Sunny Kittens

I let the kittens into the sun room. The garage is attached and it already has all the big cats things in it so there's lots of toys and it's perfectly cat safe. The lighting is also good so I took LOTS of pictures.  They also got to see my dogs through the windows, they were curious about them. Theresa also came and hung out with them for a while. She likes to play with the littles that stay with us. Cali prefers to mommy them. My old grump Casper just stays out of the way!

Sue says whatcha doin'?

Sue, you can see her foot really well here.

Handsome Ben.

Kittens have more room!

Since the weather has been mild I've moved the kittens into my garage. This lets me expand the pen so they get more room to run and play. I spent most of yesterday morning cleaning and kitten proofing it so even when they escape (it's not an if, it's a when with these little buggers) they can run around and play without me worrying too much.

Sue or Ben? It's hard to tell sometimes! (It's Ben lol)

Ben is such a lovebug! Going to make someone a good lapkitty soon!

Sue has to be in the middle of whatever is going on.

They are fascinated by my toes!

Kitty play time. Moxie wasn't still enough to get any good pictures of her this round.

Kittens in the Grass

Took the kittens outside for just a minute. They were more freaked out than anything so we didn't stay outside very long. Still I got some cute pictures of them in the grass! I mean it's a big scary world out there, can you really blame them? They've got it good after all, someone cleans up after them and brings them food!.I'd stay inside too!

Making Progress

Kittens all lined up at feeding time. I swear I end up with the best kittens. As wild as they were when they came to me I can pick them all up and do what I need to do now. I have lots of little accidental scratches, from play or them climbing me or being startled and latching on but so far no one has tried to scratch or bite on purpose, which is nice. (Hope I didn't just jinx myself)

All three are making great progress. Sue has the biggest appetite and seems to be the most food motivated. She figured out pretty quickly where the food comes from and decided I was a person she liked since I made the food appear. Ben is more skittish but has come a long way in just a few days. Moxie still has plenty of cattitude but is making progress at her own pace. She comes around when she wants attention and sits by herself when she doesn't, but she's not really afraid anymore and so that in itself is great progress in just a few days.

My kitties are making friends as usual. We're mostly past the hissy stage that comes with the first few days. Cali is all for making friends and spends most of her time watching the babies through the fence. Theresa isn't so sure, she's a bit jealous that the babies have so much food and keeps trying to jump the fence and eat kitten chow when I'm not looking. Silly girl. Still everything is going pretty much as would be expected.

Three sleepy kittens, for the moment at least. Sue figured out how to climb over the fence and so periodically all day I've been catching kittens and putting them back in the pen, only to have to do it again a few minutes later. I finally got tired of it as it's not good for me to have to be chasing them but they're tiny and don't need to be wandering the house yet either. So I cat apart a box and came up with this solution, now unless they can fly I don't see them managing to escape.

I got some really cute pictures of them today. Sue is very tame already, I've even gotten some purrs out of her. Ben is coming around slowly and Moxie is a calico and full of the attitude that seems to go along with that coloring. I have a feeling she's going to take a bit longer to realize that she's safe here. My own Cali took several weeks before she felt good and safe, she spent a great deal of that time hiding and hissing, and at least Moxie has felt comfortable enough to play a decent bit with me sitting nearby so hopefully we'll see some good progress soon.

And Then There Were Three

So we decided to go ahead and give it a try with the calico. She was sad without her siblings and crying, so I took her too. She is very cranky and full of that calico cattitude!  I also came up with names for them.

Moxie- because of her attitude!

Ben- because I don't really know he looks like a Ben to me.

And Sue- because of her three toed foot. It makes me think of a dinosaur's claw and so I named her after the Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton.

Now having names will make posting easier. Moxie is not really handable, I can pet her if she's eating but she stops to hiss. Sue and Ben pretty much I can pick up and do what I need to do with them but they're still pretty skittish. Working with feral cats is always a process though so I'll just give them the time they need and soon they'll make someone awesome pets!

Two New Kittens!

I got the call and brought home two new kittens, a male and female feral for fostering for socialization. I haven't decided on names yet. The male is the on with the black spot on his nose and the longer blaze on his face, so the one on the left, the female is on the right.

The little girl also has one foot with just three toes, it looks like a little dinosaur claw. I noticed when I was given them a bath.

Hopefully I can spend some more time with them and come up with names in the next few days!
